About me
My name is Jonathan Korman. I live in Portland, Oregon and work as a researcher & designer.
Kate Korman was my mother. When Arizona Public Service cut off her electricity in May 2024, the Arizona heat killed her within a few days. I didn’t even know about the bill until she was dead and my brother and I were in her house trying to figure out why the lights didn’t work and it was hot as an oven in there.
In the ’00s I moved my father into an apartment across the street from me for the last few years of his life when his health was failing. Of course I now wish I had been there for my mother the same way. She was stubborn and independent, which made a lot of things difficult, but I also admired her for it.
Some people don’t have family to watch over them at all. They deserve to live. So for my mother and for them, I am telling her story.
